Suck On It You Unqualified, Wolf-Murdering, Neiman-Marcus Wearing, Unplanned Pregnancy Having, Ignorant, Winking, Mean-Spirited Lowest Common Denominator Witch
Yesterday, being a Tuesday, was a Gomeroke evening. There was also something else going on that I overheard a few people talking about, some sort of public, national contest. Maybe the superbowl or something. Whatever the nature of this brouhaha, this Gomeroke was WAY WAY more fun than the Gomeroke exactly four years ago, with the relentlessly reddening TV maps and the stunned disbelief and the wondering 1) how fucking stupid we could be and 2) what exactly they did to steal Ohio (in all likelihood). There were about eleven audience members/participants, and a funereal gloom, thick as bread pudding, had descended and enveloped us all.
In contrast, last night we had about two hundred people, all in a very good mood. The unbridled optimism that we felt was a nice counterpoint to the last few years of never-ending dread. Plus, we were watching something pretty goddamn historic happening. Even that great cracker barrel, Indiana, turned blue in the end. It was a VERY NICE evening.
After standing at the precipice of tragic stupidity for many years, we've taken a step back. This doesn't magically solve anything or stave off the encroaching depression or bring back the lives of those slaughtered in our idiotic wars. We're still a very stupid people. But we've taken a willful, conscious step toward LESS stupidity. I consider this significant.
