2:05 p.m. - 2008-02-12 Or maybe Stevergo's been snowed under? It's possible that even as I type this the weather outside is breaking its record for all-time most snowingest season EVER ON RECORD. This is very exciting and momentous and the snow looks lovely, insofar as it stays white and fluffy like puffs of fine cotton wool. On the other hand, it can give one who is, as they say, of a certain age some pause. To wit, the last winter this insanely snowy (in the upper midwest at least) was in 1978. That was thirty years ago, and I'm old enough to remember it. And not only that, but during every conversation I've had with anyone in the last month I've brought up how crazy the snow is and how it reminds me of 1978. So, to review: I'm old enough to (1) remember events from three decades ago, and (2) to bore everyone I meet with comparative analyses of the weather. This is sobering. Still, the snow's nice. Meanwhile, plans are being made. Kia and I have scheduled a duo performance at the Mother Fool's in March. It will be a Steve and Eydie type of married-people variety show with music, banter and probably sock puppets. The music will be mostly originals COMPOSED ESPECIALLY FOR THE OCCASION! Yammer is playing in the not-too-distant future, following a long hiatus. As is Executive Tea Set. There's been talk of recording a new Yid Vicious cd, and a concert with Nate. And of course there's the Gomers: always with the Gomering. Since Gregg (Florida drummer) has been around for a couple months, I've gotten to play lots of vibes, which I had been working on for some time, contact-micing. One or two of the Piezos pops off during every performance, but I've got it to the point where it's fairly reliable. Gregg goes back to Florida soon, meaning I go back to the drums, but I've got plans for my strange, unwieldy beast of a vibraphone. So many plans. Plus, I get to play ACOUSTIC vibes sometimes with the AM band (including long-time co-conspirator Michael), which is always a good time. Also, VACATION! We (Kia and I)'re going to London and then Barcelona in a few weeks. Originally I wanted to go to Delaware and Kia wanted to go somewhere not incredibly lame, so this was the compromise we made. We're expecting to have a fun, international time and bore friends, contemporaries and family alike with Spain anecdotes for years to come. But take heart, long-suffering friends, contemporaries and family: at least you won't have to listen to me yammering on about the weather.
