He's YOUR giant flying robot now, Johnny.
Taco Night, September 26th, Frida: We both didn't really feel like burritos so we got tacos instead. Our plates had three tacos apiece, plus the usual rice/bean accoutrements. I think tacos and burritos operate on a three to one ratio, so we probably ate as much as if we were having burritos. Mine had pork with little bits of onion and pineapple, which complemented each other surprisingly well. Kia's were fish. No one knew what type of fish, but it was breaded and deep-fried. The tacos were pretty good, but the real attractions at Frida are the big Frida Kahlo portraits covering the walls, featuring her prodigious and otherworldly eyebrows. I wonder if there's an eyebrow museum somewhere, someplace that pays homage to some of history's great eye ridges: Sam Donaldson's, Brooke Shields, Peter Gallagher. That annoying guy from all the 70s game shows who was always dumping confetti on everything. It's time their eyebrows had a forum, I say, lest they be forgotten. Let the brow not be forgotten, LET THE BROW NOT BE FORGOTTEN! Taco Night, October 2, Tubb's Taco Palace: Kia picked up some to go, salmon, tilapia, another kind of fish, none deep-fried. They were enjoyable, but not as much as their amazing neon sign. Unfortunately, you can't eat signs, so we got the tacos. Meanwhile, Japan plans: So much to think about: tickets, passports, rail passes, currency exchange, gifts for host families, non-host-family accomodations, cds and other "merch", where to go, what to see, the toilets of the east, etc, etc. Plus, cat-sitters. Someone's got to feed our cats. All the minutiae quickly piles up, but mostly it's tremendously exciting to think that a week from now we'll be way on the other side of the planet, watching the sun rise over the Pacific ocean while we play klezmer, which lots of Japanese may never have heard before. Very exciting, yes yes. SUPER-FANTASTIC INTERNATIONAL KLEZMER PARTY FUN, #1 OKAY!!!
