YVTASCBP!!!
The Yid Vicious Tenth Anniversary Super Colossal Blow-out Party was pretty fun. As per usual, though, there was a much greater turn-out at the FREE show we played a couple days later. Vexing, that. It makes me wonder whether Yid Vicious listeners really have our best interests at heart. Also, sales of the third cd have been lackluster. While this could be attributed largely to our collective lack of marketing acumen, I can't help but wonder if klezmer was just a trendy thing for a lot of people, and they eventually got bored with us and moved on to the throat singing or whatever the fuck.

But the party. Kia and I spent all day Friday before the show cleaning the house, which was a bit of a chore since we never, ever clean our house and there was much dust and residue of unknown origin. Spill stains, long forgotten cat vomit (man, can those things puke!), bulky percussion crap and stray sticks. Papers, clothes, photos of our younger, happier selves. Books, cds. Tapes. Batteries that don't work. And of course I never notice the terrible filth that permeates our bathroom until people are coming over and I try to see it through the eyes of visitors and horror overtakes me. But our hard work paid off and our dwelling was made (temporarily) habitable.

At the Mother Fool's show we played much of our usual fare, plus the new Tangar. There were a couple of shakey moments, but it ended, train-wreck free. Everyone played well, and the dozens of former band members in attendance sat in. Among them was former drummer Jon, whose playing allowed me to get up from behind the drums and listen to them being played by someone else, which I tend to enjoy, unless the other drummer is a gorilla. Which Jon isn't. We played Bist du Shein, Der Husid, The Seventh Schlemiel, Terk Yale, Vicious Bulgar, the afore-mentioned 21st Century Tangar, Tum Balalaika, other vocals with Anna, and much more.

Then, people came over to our house, although most of the former band people bailed, citing concerns such as "family" and "sleep". People who didn't lame out included tuba Dave, Barb and Jim Young, Mike and his friend Adam, Bill, Melissa, Daithi, Bob, Maggie, Graham and a blonde-haired woman I never met, Jonathan and Andrea, Greg and Anna. There was much pleasant conversation, some eating and drinking, no one trashed the place and all were gone by two in the morning. Just like at a grown-up party. Next day, Kia and I mostly stayed home and luxuriated in our clean, clean house.

NEXT: My shoulders: I could kind of use a back-and-shoulder rub.

POSTSCRIPT: Sources (Kia) tell me that this post came across as a little bit negative. Toward eliminating this perceived negativity, I'd like to point out that we at Yid Vicious love ALL the people who come to our shows; we just love the people who are willing to shell out six bucks to see us a lot more. Also, the crowd at our Friday show made up in enthusiasm what it lacked in size. Also, our house wasn't really that filthy before we cleaned it. I was exaggerating, as is my tendency. Thank you for your patience.
