Things: plenty
IN WHICH THE LAST ENTRY IS CONCLUDED: So, as I was saying, I have the same birthday as composers James Bohn and Maurice Ravel. Since Yid Vicious happens to be playing on my birthday this year, I'm laying plans to represent both composers...klezmer style! There's no getting around it: Bolero is going to make one fucking kick-ass bulgar. I don't know yet what we're playing by James Bohn, but if his initials are any indication, it ought to be pretty funky. It will be on March the seventh at Madison's High Noon Saloon.

IN WHICH CURRENT EVENTS ARE ADDRESSED:
A cartoon? I mean, a fucking CARTOON? I understand the outrage and all, but when did a cartoon ever, say, kill someone? I don't think ever, unless there's an obscure case involving someone administering a fatal paper cut. But the REACTION to a cartoon...other than the rare instance of one's sides splitting with laughter, I wouldn't have thought this could kill anyone either until this past week. MAN is everything fucked up these days.

IN WHICH I ATTEMPT TO AMELIORATE THE DOWNER THAT WAS THE LAST PARAGRAPH WITH A DIVERTING LIST:
Here's what we played Tuesday at Gomeroke, also at the High Noon:
*I Hate the Bank, an old Gomers chestnut,

*Shakin' All Over, sung by Jansen. Later he professed bewilderment over audience members' shaking during the song. WHATEVER DID HE EXPECT?

*Lucille, the Chuck Berry song,

*Take the Money and Run,

*Mike Stand Conundrum, my personal favorite of the evening, composed and sung on the spot by Dave when the eponymous mike stand conundrum became evident,

*White Rabbit, Tainted Love, Funkytown, Sister Christian (as a romantic duo!), Shout, Paint it Black, Someone to Love. Next set,

*Teenage Wasteland, Rebel Yell sung by Howie, a regular,

*Something and Lies(secrets?), The Lion Sleeps Tonight (a RAP version! Contemporary!), Crazy on You and Barracuda for a riviting Heart twofer, What's So Funny About Peace Love Understanding sung by Tom who normally does something from Zep 3. Fuck Her Gently by Tenacious D,

*Baby I'm Amazed, or is it MAYBE I'm Amazed, sung by Carolyn or Caroline, who it turns out is possibly married to or lives with the afore-mentioned Tom,

*An Elvis song, Jansen again, then a different Elvis song sung by some guy, Piss Up a Rope sung by two roller derby chicks, Mirror in the Bathroom sung by a mohawk guy. Third set:

*Bohemian Rhapsody, then another Ween song, then Whipping Post (Carolyn again, because she's cool and wanted to exploit the whole two drums thing), Hit me With Your best Shot (roller derby chicks again), LA Woman, some Dave Mason song, Dazed and Confused sung by Ryan (one of the better Zeppelin-singing guys), then finally

*two more songs.
That's a lot for a Tuesday. Maybe too much. It's a wonder someone hasn't called the police.

IN WHICH THE FUTURE IS FORETOLD:
But that was Tuesday; practically ancient history. Yid Vicious is playing Friday, and it will be a blow-out of some prodigy, being the band's tenth annual Groundhog Day(ish) concert at the Mother Fool's. It will be noisy and fun-filled and there will be a party afterward stretching late into the night or hopefully at least late enough to justify clearing away enough of the crap in our house that we can have people over.

FINALLY, IN WHICH EXPECTATIONS ARE CREATED, PERHAPS LATER TO BE DASHED:
Not HIGH expectations, mind you. But I'm totally going to start a whole new series about Ravel soon, reflecting my big new Ravel kick. Yeah, Ravel's pretty fucking great.
