3:21 p.m. - 2005-11-15 So, I've been doing indoorsy things, mainly helping arrange this thing we're playing in Yid Vicious (you know: Yid Vicious), a Kolomeyke. The idea is to have it start off as a recognizable mid-tempo Yiddish dance thing and then gradually, nay, imperceptably turn into Chameleon. I'm hoping to generate a response like, "Dude! They're TOTALLY playing Chameleon, but they were playing klezmer before. Or am I TRIPPING?" I think we'll be playing it Saturday. Meanwhile: orchestra. Not opera orchestra, regular orchestra. Bartok Piano Concerto #1. Peter Serkin is coming to town to play it, so it should be good. It's from the late twenties, falling squarely into Bartok's modernist machine music phase, with all the Fibonacci counting and relentless eighth notes. There's lots for us to do and best of all it's twenty-five minutes long, not three hours (see last couple posts). Also this week, Optometri plays at a bar on Thursday. I've got mixed feelings about laying down and playing the keyboard. I'm not sure if I'll lie on the stage this time. But one things for sure: lying, standing, sitting, slouching, leaning, it doesn't matter. I'm going to get up on that stage and phone it in like nobody's business, with absolute apathy and lack of purpose, because DAMMIT that's what I do and Optemetri's (several) fans wouldn't stand for anything more. FINALLY: no updates; no John Waters Boxed Set Update, no Seventh Schlemiel Update. Why, the Big Time hasn't even Eluded Yid Vicious Yet Again lately. Sigh.
