Now THAT'S fucking Italian!
Lying on the stage and "playing" the keyboard was okay. Not great. I didn't remember to bring a pillow, that's the thing of it. In order to function as a supine keyboardist it was necessary to keep my head elevated which, in lieu of a pillow, I had to use my arm to do. It wasn't bad, just not as great as I'd imagined.

Meanwhile: OPERA!

OPERA OPERA OPERA OPERA OPERA!!!

Tosca, to be exact. I don't know what it's about, exactly, but the score has lots of church bells and cannons in it, and the cover of the score has a print of a woman bending over a dead man to place a crucifix on his chest while in the lower left corner a snake writhes around and through the "T" and "o" of Tosca. Therefore, it must be the courageous story of a benevolent matriarch who cares for the dead in the wake of the brutal human/snake wars of antiquity. Or maybe the woman is of human/snake lineage and atones for the injuries brought upon her human brethren by her war-like snake people. The thing I haven't yet figured out: Why are the snake-people using cannons? Are they non-poisonous snakes who must rely on explosives in their pursuit of world-dominance? And if so how and when did they break the bounds of natural selection and surpass their venomous snake-peers? If opera does nothing else, it raises PROVOCATIVE QUESTIONS like these. Frankly, I can't wait to sit through this violent, batshit melodrama several times and further ponder such questions.

And, best of all, we get to play sheep bells. SHEEP BELLS! No one knows what sheep bells are supposed to sound like, but the sheep bells we're using KICK ASS beyond any sheep bell that any fucking "shepard" has ever rung. Some of them have graced actual animals. Others of them are roto-tom parts. Together they form a rich pastoral tapestry that no doubt will advance the drama and splendour of this tragic snake/human war saga. Verily it will.

JOHN WATER BOXED SET UPDATE: Today there is no John Waters boxed Set Update. Melissa still hasn't watched Polyester. Sigh. One day.
