Last night was Bike Night. It included such activities as bike decorating, a bike parade, a bike pagaent, bike-oriented video and music, and a sock-puppet show. Sockrates Presents: Sockrates' Sock Puppet Carnival of Morals and Logic was the brainchild of Kia and me, and for me it was the anticipated highlight of the evening. The bar we were performing in was pretty big and crowded, so we were interested in seeing how well a carnival of morals and logic would go down there. As it was going on we could tell some people in the audience were paying attention, but most of them were enjoying drunken bike talk amongst themselves. Afterward Kia remarked that our sock puppets were drenched in Flop Sweat. But that's okay, we're realizing a dream: to present a series of short sock-puppet plays, each centered around the work of a particular philosopher, and each of which ends with the philosopher or one of his cronies being carried off by a giant, screeching bird. Plus, most of the dialogue last night was straight Boethius, so whoever wasn't paying attention, it was their loss. Next time Fortuna with domineering hand moves the turning wheel and steely hearted laughs at groans her deeds have wrung, and all the talky drunk bike people are left pining and longing for their former good fortune, all I can say to them is: We tried to warn you.
